Tracking time while working on the web with the Glimpse picture-in-picture add-on

We spend a lot of time on the web, in the Cloud, using a number of web-based productivity applications for the small business. We might have several Google documents open, a hangout in progress, and a few emails in mid composition. If you are trying to track your time amidst all this activity, the extra effort required to open one more app and start a timer may be enough to discourage you from actually doing it.

Picture-in-picture time tracking while working on the web

Enter the Glimpse add-on for Chrome. This picture-in-picture add-on will load the mobile version of any web site in a smaller pane. It is great way to quickly access another web site, whether it’s to start a timer or check the baseball game score, without losing focus of the current tab.

Glimpse works great with the mobile version of Intervals, our online project management and time tracking software. The picture-in-picture window loads my list of tasks and current timers. Now I can update tasks and track time while working on the web, without leaving the current tab.

And because Glimpse emulates a mobile device, the web site loads fast and doesn’t take up much space. I do wish the picture-in-picture pane could be docked, so it won’t disappear every time it loses focus. However, this picture-in-picture add-on is still a great tool for those, like myself, who are too easily distracted while moving from tab to tab.
