Using Modules to Standardize and Control your Projects

Michael Payne | February 2nd, 2021 | , , ,

Modules in Intervals are customizable buckets where tasks and time are housed within a project. This four minute video is an introduction to modules and walks you through managing the default modules and how these defaults are then used in projects. We have another blog post coming down the pipeline that will show more advanced uses of modules including reporting by module, viewing budgets by modules, and generating invoices by module.

How modules help your project management flow

  • As a project manager you can control the categories that are available for your time and tasks.
  • Quickly report on the value of time by module.
  • Subdivide your projects with the levels of control that make the most sense for your work.
  • Standardize your projects so that you can compare apples to apples.
  • Keep your projects clean and organized. View only the tasks and time that match a certain module.

Why would I use modules?

  • Track sub-project budgets with modules.
  • If your project estimates are way off, use modules to break down a larger project into more digestible pieces.
  • Run cross client and cross project reports by modules.
  • As a business owner, gain insight into where your teams’ efforts are actually going within projects. If you do dollar per hour contracts, improve your ability to create estimates by knowing the actuals. Our web development contract is available here if you would like to see how modules can roll up in a contract.
  • Learn how your projects are actually unfolding to make better decisions on future projects.

The module system in Intervals is a powerful way to track and organize your tasks and time. Additional information about modules is available here on our help site.
