Four Resources for the Outdoor Type

Pelago in Santa Barbara
Living in Santa Barbara, we can’t help but fall in love with our natural surroundings. You will often find us playing at the ocean, exploring in the local mountains, or venturing further out into the Mojave and the Eastern Sierra. Our name, Pelago, reflects this admiration for all things outdoors, and is an homage to our very own Channel Islands. Here are a few resources for hiking around Santa Barbara and beyond.

Santa Barbara Hikes
A great online trail reference for our local mountains. Trails are divided up by region (front country, back country, etc). Find directions and descriptions for each trail, in addition to community-submitted updates on trail conditions. And check out the wildflower reference before heading out, to appreciate the current blooms from our recent rains.

Outdoorzy.com
Social network for those brave enough to leave the computer behind and venture out into the wilderness. Read trip reports, gear reviews, and events, and find something going on in your neck of the woods.

Leave No Trace On Open Space
As you venture into the great outdoors, remember to do your part to keep it beautiful. This means picking up after your dog and leaving things better than the way you found them. Remember, there are others pursuing the same solitude and communion as you, and our outdoors are a limited resource.

The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy web site is a great resource, and a great site to browse during breaks at work. Download free wallpaper images for your desktop, or send an ecard to a friend. You can even get involved with donating spare computer time to a greater cause; fighting climate change.
