Stage 6: Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita
Head down to east beach Saturday, February 23rd, for the start of stage 6, a 105 mile ride to Santa Clarita. If you can, ride your bike or walk down, because it’s going to be compacted and gridlocked with people. Here are some tips on participating as a spectator (PDF).
Ubuntu Live 2008
Portland is hosting the second annual Ubuntu conference July 21-22. We’ll be sending a few delegates to learn more about embracing Ubuntu in our workplace and community.
The two day event will allow participants to share their Ubuntu experiences, learn from each other, and catch up with the latest developments from Ubuntu, our partners, and the free software and open source ecosystem.
America’s 50 Greenest Cities
Speaking of Portland… Popular Science magazine has published their list of the 50 greenest cities based on four criteria: Electricity, Transportation, Green Living, Recycling and Community Perspective. Portland came in first, which is no surprise, considering they are at the forefront of advocating bicycle commuting.
America’s top green city has it all: Half its power comes from renewable sources, a quarter of the workforce commutes by bike, carpool or public transportation, and it has 35 buildings certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
